ACA Open Enrollment 2026: What You Need to Know

Every year, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace opens for enrollment, giving individuals and families the opportunity to sign up for health insurance or switch to a new plan. If you need coverage and don't qualify for Medicare or employer-sponsored insurance, this is your chance to get protected.

When Is Open Enrollment?

For 2026, Open Enrollment runs from November 1, 2025 through January 15, 2026. During this window, you can enroll in a new marketplace plan, switch from your current plan, or renew your existing coverage.

Who Should Enroll?

You should consider enrolling if you're currently uninsured, your employer doesn't offer affordable coverage, you're self-employed, or you've aged out of a parent's plan (turning 26). Even if you have coverage, it's worth reviewing your options — premiums and benefits change every year.

Financial Help Is Available

Many people qualify for subsidies (premium tax credits) that significantly reduce monthly premiums. Some may also qualify for cost-sharing reductions that lower deductibles and copays. The amount of help you receive depends on your household income and family size.

What Do ACA Plans Cover?

All marketplace plans must cover 10 essential health benefits: ambulatory services, emergency care, hospitalization, maternity and newborn care, mental health services, prescription drugs, rehabilitative services, lab work, preventive care, and pediatric services (including dental and vision for children).

Don't Miss Your Window

If you miss Open Enrollment, you'll generally have to wait until the next year to enroll — unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to a qualifying life event like losing coverage, getting married, having a baby, or moving.
